L-alanyl-l-glutamine

Culture Supplement

L-glutamine is an essential amino acid and provides energy and nitrogen to proliferating cells. L-glutamine is unstable in solution at 37°C and breaks down to form ammonium and pyrrolidone-carboxylic acid. This instability can be detrimental to some cells in vitro as available L-glutamine degrades, producing toxic ammonia. L-alanyl-l-glutamine (LALG) is a stable L-glutamine dipeptide that can substitute for L-glutamine in culture media. Most media are formulated with 2-10 mM L-glutamine; however, the optimal LALG concentration should be determined for individual cell types and culture conditions. (SC0733)
