Usage: The aminoglycoside antibiotic G418 is effective against both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. It is used to select for cells that express neomycin resistance as a result of successful transfection. G418 should be added to animal cell cultures at a concentration of 400 μg/ml for selection purposes, while a concentration of 200 μg/ml is sufficient for maintenance. For prokaryotic cells, the maximum concentration is 5 μg/ml.
