Description: Immortalized Chinese Softshell Turtle Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (STA) is a cell line derived from the extracranial carotid artery of the Chinese soft-shelled turtle. The cells are muscle cell-like and express myofilament marker, α-smooth muscle actin. STA cells are susceptible to soft-shelled turtle iridovirus. The STA cell line can be a useful platform for studying the viral pathogenesis and other biological aspects of the soft-shelled turtles.Immortalization Method: SpontaneousBioSafety Level: IISpecies: Chinese Softshell TurtleSource Organ: Extracranial carotid arteryGrowth Properties: AdherentMorphology: Spindle-shapedPopulation Doubling: 72 - 96 hoursSeeding Density: N/AMarkers: α-smooth muscle actinDonor Age: N/ADonor Gender: N/ADonor Ethnicity: N/APropagation: The base culture medium for this cell line is Prigrow IV medium available at abm, Cat.
