The penicillin interferes with the final stages of synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, while streptomycin binds to the 30S subunit causing a misread. The amphotericin enhances the permeability of the fungal cell wall, making it susceptible to the leakage of its inner contents.
Antibiotic/Antimycotic Solution (ABAMS) is a 100x stock solution qualified to use in reducing risks of bacterial and fungal contamination in laboratory cells or tissues cultures in vitro.
Antibiotic/Antimycotic Solution consists of 10,000 units/mL of Penicillin, 10,000 μg/mL of Streptomycin and 25μg/ml amphotericin B in saline solution.
1ml of ABAMS is to be used for every 99ml of medium.
The solution is sterile filtered through a 0.2μm membrane filter.
