Antibiotic/Antimycotic Solution (ABAMS) is a 50 mL 100x solution designed to aid researchers in reducing risks of bacterial and fungal contamination. It consists of 10,000 units/mL of Penicillin, 10,000 µg/mL of Streptomycin and 25 μg/ml amphotericin B in saline solution. The penicillin interferes with the final stages of synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, while streptomycin binds to the 30S subunit causing a misread. The amphotericin enhances the permeability of the fungal cell wall, making it susceptible to the leakage of its inner contents. 1 mL of ABAMS is to be used for every 99 mL of medium. The solution is sterile filtered through a 0.2 μm membrane filter.
