Immortalized Rat Mesencephalic (AF5) Cells - SV40T (T155g) are derived from E-14 rat embryos. Immortalization was preformed with the truncated SV40 large T (T155g) lacking the p53 binding domain gene via transfection. AF5 cells express glial and neuronal markers, indicative of mature phenotypic properties. It is a reliable source for central nervous system-related studies.

Propagation: The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow IV medium available from abm (TM004). To make the completed growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (TM999)* to final concentration of 10%, 20 ng/ml human FGF2 (Z101455), 500 µg/ml G418 (G271), and 1%Penicillin/Streptomycin Solution (G255).
Carbon dioxide (CO₂): 5%, Temperature: +37.0°C.* abm does not recommend to use heat-inactivated FBS for cell culture unless specified otherwise.
