Immortalized Rainbow Trout Heart Cells (RTH)

Immortalized Rainbow Trout Heart Cells (RTH) was generated by transducing rainbow trout heart with recombinant retroviruses carrying polyoma middle T antigen. Immortalized Rainbow Trout Heart Cells (RTH) show endothelial-like morphology, are cobblestone in their appearance, and have strong phagocytic activity. Immortalized Rainbow Trout Heart Cells (RTH) constitutively transcribe collagen, selectin, VCAM, several chemokines, and several chemokine receptors. No changes in expression were seen from early passages, up to passage 40. Immortalized Rainbow Trout Heart Cells (RTH) is suitable for study of teleost fish and the role endothelium has in physiological and pathological conditions. Immortalized Rainbow Trout Heart Cells (RTH) is also suitable for the study of the effect viruses have on endothelial cells due to its susceptibility to VHSV.

Propagation:Use of Gelatin Coating Solution (0.1%) (TM063) is required for cell adhesion to the culture vessels. Grow cells in gelatin-coated culture vessels with the following conditions.
The base medium for this cell line is L15 medium (Gibco). To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (TM999)* to a final concentration of 10% and Penicillin/Streptomycin Solution (G255) to a final concentration of 1%.
Carbon dioxide (CO₂): 5%, Temperature: 20.0°C.
* Do not use heat-inactivated FBS for cell culture unless specified otherwise.
